Rewards tokens for Stacking

When you participate in Stacking—either solo or through a pool—you’ll receive Bitcoin rewards in the form of either BTC or STX. Solo Stackers always receive BTC to a Bitcoin address, while many Stacking pools convert BTC to STX before distribution. Leather helps you view and track your Stacking rewards clearly, including which token you’ve received and where it was sent.

Stacking earns Bitcoin-denominated rewards, but the actual token you receive depends on how you participate:

  • Solo Stacking: Rewards are sent directly in BTC to your registered Bitcoin address.
  • Pooled Stacking: Most pools convert the BTC earned from Stacking into STX for simpler distribution. Some may offer BTC payouts to users who register a Bitcoin address.
  • Liquid Stacking: Rewards are sent directly as LP token accruals to the Liquid Stacked token (e.g., LiSTX, stSTX, ststxBTC). Leather displays the reward amount, token type (BTC or STX), and delivery address once your rewards are sent. This helps you monitor what you’ve earned and how it was delivered.

Before participating, check with your pool or delegate to confirm:

  • Whether BTC rewards will be converted to STX
  • If you need to register a BTC address to receive native Bitcoin
